Story
Four children make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to a strange and dangerous galaxy. Chewbacca’s family watch from the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (1978), in which a holographic circus entertains the young Neal siblings. Actor AniMat “The Goonies: The Goonies” (2022) Like most 80s kids, I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I’m really craving new Star Wars content.
Hungry for Wars content
I’d be lying if I said this direction was necessary. I mean, after being disappointed with the sequel trilogy and pretty much everything else — Andor, Rogue One, and the first two seasons of Mando — I rate all of Disney’s live-action content as mediocre to bad — I’m a good, mature, epic star. Show me a show like Andor in the Old Republic with Jedi, Sith, and Nick Gillard as a lightsaber battle effects coordinator.
But… honestly, Skeleton Crew is good
It’s not offensive or poorly made; Not as blatantly cheap as the Boba Fett book; Not as pointless as Mando season 3; Not a break from the fantasy like the sequels and Kenobi; Acolyte. Aren’t they tone-deaf like Hooray? It’s basically a Star Wars Goonies, a cute little story about a group of kids going on an adventure in the Star Wars universe.
So far so good
The writing is not bad so far (from episode 2): the effects, costumes and locations are great: it all has a certain charm. I guess it was a passion project for its creators, which, like Andor, was treated as a minor side project by the higher-ups, so they didn’t bother to get involved, which is a blessing for Lucasfilm these days. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" One of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of the month.
